David Noyes – Associate Winemaker
I joined the Wellington winemaking team in the summer of 2008. A confluence of factors, including the opportunity to make my wine at Wellington Vineyards, to work with an old friend, and to contribute to a well-respected winemaking endeavor led me to join my fortunes with those of Peter and his crew shortly before the 2008 harvest.
My winemaking career began in the cellar at Ridge Vineyards in 1970, between then and now I've worked in Monterey, Mendocino, Livermore, France and Sonoma Valley. In 1989 I began work with the Kunde family to create Kunde Estate Winery; I started my own label in 2001, and in 2006 left Kunde to focus on DAVID NOYES WINES.
I make mainly pinot noir, supplemented by tocai friulano, chardonnay and some old vine zinfandel. As Peter makes mainly cabernet and sources fruit from later ripening zinfandel and syrah vineyards, our production schedules mesh relatively easily. More importantly I respect Peter’s commitment to quality, to specific vineyards and to thoughtful, ecologically sound practices. Peter’s wines show individuality and commitment; I’m proud to be part of the process.
